Right before we left Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park on Tuesday afternoon, a Ford pick-up truck with a fresh Husqvarna FC 45o pulled into the pit area. Turns out this was the second day of Supercross preparation for Kyle Cunningham, as he will take on the 2017 Monster Energy Supercross Series with the Munn Racing group. We initially heard a rumor of this around Thanksgiving, but Cunningham’s recent run to Germany for a few offseason events left little in the way of confirmation.
After talking with Cunningham and his mechanic Austin Kent at the track, it sounds like the plan is to take on the full schedule in the 450 class, a first for the veteran racer in Supercross. Cunningham and Kent just recently arrived in California and will spend the next few weeks working on a setup before the start of the new year. From a quick look at the rider and the bike, it looks like Cunningham will wear O’Neal apparel, SiDi boots, Bell helmets, Oakley goggles, while the bike has parts from Race Tech suspension, FMF, Rekluse, and TAG. We’ll have more with Cunningham in the next few days about the new deal.
